Lot 4433 AMERICAN SILVER HILTED MOUNTED OFFICER'S SWORD.
This War of 1812 era silver hilted officer's sword measures 38" overall with a 32 7/8" etched blade featuring a single wide fuller. Etching includes sprays of arms and foliate motifs combined with swags. The silver hilt has an engraved crossguard showing foliate motifs with a drop quillon. The knuckle bow has similar motifs and is of reverse "P" design. The backstrap has lineal engraving topped by an elaborately engraved bird's head pommel. Above the ornate silver ferrule is a dual crosshatch grip of organic cream colored material. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina, but etching remains quite clear. Hilt is undamaged and engraving is readily apparent. Grip has a wonderful early patina with no losses, but a few tight age cracks. (02-26072/BF). NON-GUN. $1,000-1,400.
